One Hurt When Car Strikes Pole

EAST HARWICH – A driver suffered serious injuries after the car he was driving crashed into a utility pole on Long Pond Drive Monday afternoon.

The accident happened near the intersection of Cahoon Road at about 1:15 p.m., and the driver was able to escape the badly damaged wreck without assistance. He was evaluated by Harwich paramedics, and then rushed to Cape Cod Tech where a Boston MedFlight helicopter airlifted him to Boston Medical Center for treatment of chest injuries. The man’s identity is not known, and police are investigating the cause of the crash. Long Pond Road was closed for some time to allow crews to remove the car and replace the damaged utility pole.
