JoAnn Plasse Root

JoAnn Plasse Root, 81, of Harwich Port, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 20, 2025 after living for many years with Alzheimer’s Disease.
JoAnn was born to the late Joe and June(Nelson) Plasse in Springfield, MA. She graduated from Technical High School before earning her Nursing degree from Boston College. Though JoAnn began her nursing career in the hospital, she found great joy for decades with Valley Ob/Gyn in Springfield. She loved her work and was excited about being able to help people. She was married to the love of her life, Stephen (Steve) Root for over 58 years. After retiring she & Steve relocated to Harwich Port. In addition to spending time on the beach, gardening, walking her dogs, and playing golf with friends, JoAnn volunteered with the Garden Club of Harwich and The Family Pantry of Cape Cod. She truly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, JoAnn was predeceased by Steve in 2024. She is survived by her daughter Elise Lally (Frank) of Harwich Port, MA., son David (Rita) of Vista, CA. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren whom she adored; Conor, Bridget, Jacqueline, Patrick, and Maggie. She also leaves a long list of cousins and friends from Springfield, college, and the cape.
Services will be private. Contributions may be made to The Family Pantry of Cape Cod (Harwich Port, MA) or the Cape Cod Alzheimer’s Family Support Center (Brewster, MA).
