Mary M. (Blayz) Kemp, 92, of Concord, MA, passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Kemp lived a life of grace and kindness. Known for her elegance and generous spirit, she made everyone feel welcome and valued. She was deeply loved by the late Robert Kemp, her husband of 61 years. A devoted mother, Mary is forever cherished by her five daughters: Carolyn Kemp and husband Eric Broege, Margaret Carlson and husband Mike Zeitouny, Elizabeth Wiza, Amy Sweeney and her husband Joseph, and Katherine Flood and husband Ryan. She was a proud grandmother of Henry Broege, Charles and Clayton Carlson, Madeline, John, and Evelyn Sweeney, Nicholas Wiza, and William and Sarah Flood. Mary is also survived by her younger brother, Charles Blayz. She is reunited with her late grandson, Jack Wiza, and her late brother, Robert "Hap" Blayz.
Born in Swanton, Ohio, on October 4, 1932, Mary’s strong Catholic faith was nurtured by her beloved grandmother. She pursued a career in nursing, earning her BSN from St. Louis University and later teaching in Milwaukee, where she met Bob on a blind date—leading to a lifetime of love and partnership.
Mary embraced every chapter of life with dedication, from raising a bustling household to serving her community. She held leadership roles in numerous arts, historical, and healthcare organizations, including the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Emerson Hospital Auxiliary, the Orchard House, Garden Club and the Milldames. She and Bob were proud supporters of Marquette University, establishing a scholarship for business students. Wherever there was a need, Mary was there—with a helping hand, a casserole, or a listening ear.
A gracious hostess, she loved gathering friends and family, ensuring her home was filled with laughter and conversation. In retirement, she cherished summers in Chatham, cheering on her grandchildren, playing piano, and composing handwritten correspondence, a tradition she held dear.
Her faith guided her life, shaping her values of generosity, integrity, and service. She leaves behind a legacy of love and unwavering devotion to family and community.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, February 9 from 12:30 to 3:00 pm at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA. Mary’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord, MA on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 10:00 am. Burial in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Concord.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston or the Emerson Health Foundation.
