Athlete Of The Week: Tamer Khalil
MASHPEE – Tamer Khalil has picked up right where he left off.
The senior from Chatham has been among the Cape’s most prolific lacrosse scorers to start off the spring season, recording 22 points through three games.
He scored two goals and tallied two assists in the team’s 14-2 victory at Mashpee to help the Sharks improve to 3-0.
“Tamer is a threat inside,” said Monomoy’s first-year coach Chris Harlow. “He can shoot and pass.”
Khalil opened the season with one of the best performances of his career, scoring 12 goals and assisting on another in the team’s season-opening 17-10 victory over Cape Cod Academy. He then recorded two goals and three assists to help the Sharks escape with an 11-7 win over Dennis-Yarmouth.
“We practice everything to perfection,” Khalil said. “We do a lot of fundamental-based training, perfecting every single base attack we can. [Coach Harlow] is very assertive and makes sure everything is perfection.”
While Khalil continues to be the driving force behind Monomoy’s scoring, he said it helps to know this year’s lineup has plenty of talent capable of finding the back of the net.
“I wouldn’t say it takes off pressure, but it’s more soothing to know that if I’m out of the game or other guys are out of the game, we have a lot of players that can step up,” he said.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
