Carolyn E. Cryan
August 05, 2025

Carolyn E. Cryan, age 66, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, on Cape Cod—a place she deeply loved and where she shared many happy times with family and friends.
Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, to Mariel (Jones) and James Cryan, Carolyn grew up in Saddle River, New Jersey. She lived for many years in Tarrytown, New York, where her warm personality and community spirit touched many lives. After graduating from Rutgers University in 1981, she built a distinguished career in health care, holding a number of key roles and ultimately serving as Vice President of Professional Contracting for Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Carolyn was known for treating her employees with kindness, generosity and respect, earning deep loyalty and admiration throughout her profession.
Having only recently retired, Carolyn moved to live full time in Chatham, Massachusetts where she had summered since she was a young girl. Carolyn had begun to devote more time to lifelong passions including overseas travel, gardening and exploring more of Cape Cod, including its local coffee shops and boutiques. She loved all animals, particularly those dogs and cats lucky enough to share their lives with her.
Carolyn was generous to a fault - showering friends and family with gifts and never showing up anywhere empty-handed, arms laden with treats she had recently discovered. She radiated joy and wit, her beautiful smile and humor were infectious, and she drew everyone around her into conversation and connection.
A proud member of the recovery community, Carolyn recently celebrated 13 years of sobriety. She loved her coffee drinks and her mocktails and was a steady, comforting presence—offering others encouragement, compassion and a path toward serenity.
She is survived by her sisters, Tara Dougherty (Bill) and Rebecca Tower (Erik); her brother, Bobby Noyes; and her stepbrothers Keith Noyes (Barbara), Steven Noyes (Lisa), Mark Noyes and Geoffrey Noyes. Carolyn was a proud and fiercely devoted aunt to her five nephews—Will, Jack, Matt, Joe and Luke Dougherty who adored their “Auntie C” and will miss her forever.
Though her time was too short, Carolyn will be long remembered by those she loved. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the laughter she shared, and the joy she brought out in those around her.
A celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held in October 2025 in Tarrytown, NY.
