Independence HomeHeathWares in Yarmouth on Whites Path is the go-to destination for all of your medical supplies, medical rentals, orthopedic supplies and so much more. Recently I had a chance to take a tour and discuss how the operation works with Leigh-Anne Souza, the regional operations manager, and Kayla Oliver, the certified compression fitter and mastectomy fitter. With a high level of service offered right onsite, Independence HomeheathWares is unlike any other medical supply business around.
“Our mission statement is to provide quality durable medical equipment that promotes independence, mobility and improved quality of life for individuals with those medical needs,” Souza said. “We are dedicated to offering exceptional customer service, expert guidance and a comprehensive range of products to meet our customers’ diverse needs.”
One of the most compelling reasons to visit Independence HomeHealthWares is their custom mastectomy products and services ranging from prosthetics, bras, camisoles and more. Kayla Oliver is Independence HomeheathWares’ certified mastectomy and compression fitter, which is a service not readily found on the Cape.
“Our clients are just so happy to be alive that there’s no negativity in any way, shape or form when they walk through our doors,” Oliver said. “They are in the rebuilding process by the time they come here. If it’s a first-time fitting and we put the prosthesis in their bra and they look in the mirror, they can finally feel happy, feel pretty. It is just so rewarding.”
Oliver also handles all of the custom compression fittings for clients who also have a condition called lymphedema, which can occur anywhere in the body. She is able to custom fit any body part for compression garments for situations where people may not necessarily fit easily into off-the-shelf products. Ultimately Independence HomeHeathWares provides clients with an unmatched sense of comfort and confidence.
The recently remodeled and modernized shop is also a major hub for all other types of durable medical equipment, supplies and necessities for acute and non-acute medical needs. Sometimes people need short-term rentals after a surgery, or if they are visiting the Cape for vacation, and Independence HomeHealthWares can service all of those needs and work with insurance companies as well. They have wheelchairs, mobility scooters, ramps, lift chairs and hospital beds for purchase or rent (beach wheel chairs are big business!). They also offer delivery, which is a huge plus for the larger-scale items. Other products available every day include canes, bath safety supplies, braces, wound care, walking aids and more.
“My team and I at Independence HomeHealthWares are honored to serve Cape Cod and the Islands. For us, being in business here means more than just delivering medical equipment; it’s about caring for the people who make this community special,” said Chief Operating Officer Nicole Frye.
“We understand that health challenges can be deeply personal and sometimes overwhelming,” she added. “That’s why we approach our work with compassion, whether we are supporting someone who wishes to age in place with dignity, assisting families caring for loved ones, or accompanying a patient on one of life’s most difficult journeys, such as dealing with breast cancer. These moments remind us why our work matters. Cape Cod and the Islands have a unique spirit of connection, and we are grateful to contribute to that by being a trusted partner whenever our community needs us most. For us, being in business here is not just about service; it’s about building lasting relationships, giving back, and standing alongside our neighbors through every stage of life.”
We are so lucky to have this resource right in our backyard. Be sure to stop in and visit the crew at Independence HomeHealthWares for all of your medical care needs.
