BREWSTER – With two new gift agreements signed with the town, the Brewster Conservation Trust has brought its investment in the Sea Camps properties to $2.23 million.
One agreement pledges $1 million, given as $100,000 annually for the next 10 years, to be used for conservation-related projects on the pond and bay properties, an offer made possible through BCT’s relationship with the Brewster Foundation. Among the improvements this money could fund are a pollinator meadow, sand dune restoration, tree plantings and other similar environmental projects.
The second agreement pledges $230,000 for ecological projects identified in the comprehensive plan for the pond property. In addition, BCT will hold a conservation restriction, jointly with Mass Audubon, on over 55 acres of that land.
“This level of financial support is remarkable for an organization the size of BCT and shows we are truly invested in the current and future well-being of Brewster.”

“The remaining 10 acres of the parcel is also of interest to BCT because of its potential to impact water quality in the pond and in the nearby Zone II drinking water supply area,” a press statement reads. The plans call for those 10 acres to be reserved for affordable housing and a small wastewater facility.
Last year, BCT donated $1 million to help the town acquire the pond property, funds which have helped the town pay down the debt on the purchase.
“Two point two million dollars is a significant amount of money, especially for a lean and local nonprofit organization,” the statement reads. “That’s why the Brewster Conservation Trust is especially proud of the two gift agreements recently signed with the town of Brewster for the Sea Camps properties.”
The Brewster Foundation and the Schaeffer family have long been supporters of BCT and were named BCT’s Conservationists of the Year in 2024 because of their support for the Sea Camps projects.
“This level of financial support is remarkable for an organization the size of BCT and shows we are truly invested in the current and future well-being of Brewster,” Trust Vice-president Seamus Woods said.
