Brewster DPW Fills Sink Hole On Route 137
BREWSTER – A small section of Route 137 was closed to local traffic on Tuesday, April 14 as a department of public works crew worked to fill a small sink hole.
The closure lasted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It affected the small section of Route 137 between Route 124 and Route 6A.
In December, the town received grant funding for the 2028 budget to improve a one-mile stretch of Route 137 between Route 6A and Underpass Road. In an email announcement about the road closure, town officials said that this section of Route 137 “is in need of repairs to the road surface and stormwater infrastructure, and it has previously been identified as ideal for improving bike and pedestrian safety.”
In an email Tuesday, Town Manager Peter Lombardi said, “Numerous sinkholes have developed at the end of Rt 137 by Rt. 6A over the past several years from a failing drainage pipe that will be replaced when the long-term improvement project is completed in fiscal years 2028 and 2029. DPW has temporarily repaired them as needed. This one is about two-feet-by three-feet. Last year’s was a little larger.”
The town will provide more information about the project as the grant funding is dispersed.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
