Whale Donated To MRHS
A large painted whale that was part of Chatham’s annual Art in the Park fundraiser has been donated to Monomoy Regional High School by an anonymous benefactor.
The Art in the Park fundraiser features unique and colorful whales, designed by local artists, which are placed on display at Kate Gould Park in Chatham during the summer. The whales are auctioned off to benefit the Chatham Chamber of Commerce and Merchants Association.
One of those whales is now in residence in the MRHS library, thanks to a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. The piece was designed and painted by Whitney Knowlton-Wardle, who is a local artist, jewelry designer, and writer. The artwork on the whale she created represents her fantasy book series, which includes the novels “Summer of Storm” and “Strife and Wayward as the Wind.” While the painted whale came with a copy of each book, Knowlton-Wardle also donated signed copies of the books to the MRHS library for students to access.
The painted whale will be on display in the Monomoy Regional High School library, and copies of the books will be available for students to read.
