Brewster Dog Park Closes For Upgrades
BREWSTER – The Brewster Dog Park temporarily closed Monday for maintenance and improvements, capital projects that had been in the works since grant money was secured last year.
Town Manager Peter Lombardi said the town secured about $35,000 through the Stanton Foundation, a private charitable organization established by longtime CBS President Frank Staton. The foundation previously donated $225,000 to build the park, as well as covering design costs for the park’s layout.
The $35,000 will cover the installation of new fencing and improvements to the sand pit area, according to an informational email sent by the town last week. New play structures and amenities are also planned.
In some areas, the fence was damaged and needed to be repaired. Crews will also be removing about 10 feet of “poorly draining soils” under the sand in the sand pit to help it drain better after rain storms, said Lombardi.
While the department of public works will be coordinating the effort, the work will be completed by outside vendors, said Lombardi. During the temporary closure, the DPW and Brewster Water Department will complete additional work on the site.
Depending on how quickly the projects are completed, the park may reopen earlier than scheduled. In the information email, the town tentatively set the reopening date as May 1.
“We look forward to reopening later this week,” said Lombardi in an email on Monday.
A healthy Barnstable County requires great community news.
