The spring sports season for Lower Cape high school teams concluded last week. A recap of the postseason:
The Monomoy girls outdoor track and field team placed seventh at the Division 6 state meet. The boys team placed eighth. At the meet for the girls team, Lucy Cortese won the 400-meter. Zay-Day Thomas placed third in the 200-meter. The 4x100 team of Cortese, Alexa Ford, Thomas and Varvara Conley placed second. The 4x400 team of Cortese, Ford, Thomas and Conley also placed second. Multiple athletes also competed at the Meet of Champions.
For the boys, Jonathan Sagesse placed fourth in the 200-meter. Quinn Muldoon placed fifth in the 800-meter. Sean Needham placed eighth in the pentathlon and sixth in long jump. The 4x800 team of Muldoon, Chatham Gillis, Sam Kelley and Nirvens Pierre placed fourth. The 4x100 team of Jakob Conlon, Needham, Sagesse and Alique Brown placed second. The 4x400 team of Muldoon, Pat Jordan, Jackson Craig and Gillis placed fifth.
Earlier in the year at the Division 6 Relays, Cortese, Ford, Thomas and Conley won and set school records in both the 4x100 and 4x400. The boys 4x800 team of Muldoon, Gillis, Kelley and Pierre finished third and set a school record. The 4x100 team of Conlon, Needham, Sagesse and Brown placed second. The 4x200 team of Conlon, Liam James, Davion Watson and Marco-Dean Hart placed fourth. The 4x110 hurdles team of Needham, Jordan, Dylan Metters and Craig placed fourth.
For Nauset at the Division 4 state meet, Violet Roche placed third in high jump and eighth in long jump. Diana Illusinova placed third in the javelin. The girls 4x100 team of Eloise MacMillian, Heather Campbell, Maeve Roche and Violet Roche placed sixth and set a school record.
For Cape Cod Tech at the Division 5 state meet, Belle Bigley placed sixth in discus. Anthony Barltett placed sixth in triple jump.
At the Cape and Islands League Championship for sailing, Monomoy placed eighth and Nauset placed 13th.
At the girls golf South state sectional at Foxborough Country Club, Nauset placed eighth and Monomoy placed ninth. Tiffany Gomez qualified as an individual for the state championship by shooting a 101.
In the Division 3 girls tennis tournament, No. 5 Monomoy (16-2) beat No. 28 Sandwich (2-12) 4-1 in the first round before falling to No. 12 Weston (3-12) 3-2. In Division 2, No. 19 Nauset (8-8) fell to No. 14 Marblehead (11-6) 4-1 in the first round.
In the Division 3 boys tennis tournament, No. 22 Monomoy (11-7) fell to No. 11 Boston Latin Academy (11-5) 4-1 in the first round.
In the Division 4 softball tournament, No. 16 Monomoy (15-5) defeated No. 17 Clinton (9-9) 6-3 in the first round. They fell 6-0 to No. 1 Advanced Math and Science Academy (18-0). Kinsey Lister struck out three and surrendered three earned runs, and Kate Huse, Kiley Mawn, Liv Sanford, and Camryn Griswold each recorded a hit. In Division 3, No. 34 Nauset (14-4) beat No. 31 Hudson (7-13) 17-8 in the preliminary round before falling to No. 2 Norton (19-1) 13-0.
In the Division 3 baseball tournament, No. 23 Nauset (6-11) beat No. 42 Greater Lawrence Tech (10-10) 7-4 in the preliminary round. The Warriors fell 2-0 to No. 10 Gloucester (17-3) in the following round. Emmet Blatz struck out 15 and allowed zero earned runs in the loss. In Division 5, No. 22 Cape Tech (8-9) lost 4-1 to No. 11 Westfield Tech (15-4) in the first round.
In the Division 4 girls lacrosse tournament, No. 25 Monomoy (2-16) lost 19-3 to No. 8 Nantucket (16-2) in the first round. Abrielle Long eclipsed 200 career points during the game. In Division 3, No. 16 Nauset (13-5) fell 6-3 to No. 16 Hanover (6-12) in the first round.
In the Division 4 boys lacrosse tournament, No. 31 Monomoy (5-13) beat No. 34 Monson (11-6) 8-7 in the preliminary round, then fell 15-0 to No. 2 Nantucket (15-3). Also in Division 4, after winning a vocational championship, No. 24 Cape Tech (12-6) lost 16-9 to No. 9 Hamilton-Wenham (11-5) in the first round. In Division 3, No. 16 Nauset (7-11) lost 11-10 to No. 17 North Reading (12-6) in the first round.
