Harwich Port Library’s Literary Luncheon Set For September

HARWICH – The Harwich Port Library will hold a literary luncheon next month which will serve as a major fundraiser for maintenance and operation of the century-old public library.
The library celebrated its 100th birthday last August and was recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The literary luncheon will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at the West Dennis Yacht Club, 259 Loring Ave., West Dennis. The three-course luncheon will start at 11:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Best-selling authors Adrienne Brodeur and Emily Franklin will speak about their writing careers and their books, said Librarian Kim Keith.
Brodeur’s first book “Wild Game” is a memoir that begins at her family’s Cape Cod beach house in Orleans when she was 14. “Little Monsters,” also set on the Cape, is a novel about family dynamics centered on a 70-year-old marine biologist and his research work to save endangered whales.
Emily Franklin’s national bestselling, “The Lioness of Boston,” explores the life of Isabella Stewart Gardner. Franklin’s newest book, “Love and Other Monsters,” is an intriguing novel about the origin story of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” during the love affair between Mary’s stepsister Claire Clairmont and Lord Byron.
Tickets for the luncheon are $70 and may be purchased at the Harwich Port Library, located at 49 Bank St., Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during August.
The library loans current bestsellers, mystery collections and more. It includes a children’s room and offers WiFi and other services to residents, summer visitors and the Cape Cod community, according to Keith
