Brewster Accident Claims Two Lives

BREWSTER – Police are searching for answers after two drivers died in a head-on collision on Main Street last Thursday.

First responders were called to Main Street near Crosby Lane just after 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 17, and arrived to find two vehicles that were heavily damaged by a frontal collision with each other. Both drivers were alone in their respective vehicles.

"One of the operators, a 24-year-old female from Brewster, was found to be deceased at the scene," a police news release reads. "The other operator, a 38-year-old male from Truro, was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries." The man did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

This week, police identified the female as Jeralynn Osterloh of Brewster; the other driver was identified as Seth Grunwald of Truro.

The crash caused a closure of Main Street for several hours while crash investigators pored over the scene. 

Brewster Police Chief Heath Eldredge said the cause is not yet known.

“The State Police Reconstruction Team is assisting us with [the investigation] and we are awaiting additional reports to try to identify any underlying cause or contributing factors,” he said.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of the accident victims,” Fire Chief Kevin Varley said.

Brewster police received additional help from the Barnstable County Sheriff's office in the investigation. State highway officials and Orleans police assisted at the scene. Brewster firefighters were assisted by crews from surrounding towns.
