MARTHA’S VINEYARD – Cullen Lynch, a senior captain on the Monomoy/St. John Paul II football team, delivered a monster game at Martha’s Vineyard last Friday.
The Sharks may have had to cross the sea to get to the island, but Lynch produced by land and air. He ran for 157 yards and had 30 more receiving. He rushed for two touchdowns and caught another. Monomoy/St. John Paul II fell 33-27 in overtime to the Vineyarders.
Lynch impacted the other two phases of the game as well, kicking three extra points (Lynch has also punted for the Sharks) and recording six tackles (one for loss).
Powered by Lynch’s play, the Sharks scored their highest point total on the season and made for a tough team to put away on what was Martha’s Vineyard’s senior night.
In fact, the Sharks’ 27 points were a single-game high dating back to Thanksgiving 2024, when Monomoy scored 32 on St. John Paul II, which turned out to be the last game for both schools before they joined up as a co-op program.
