MRHS Recognized For AP Access
Monomoy Regional High School has earned a place on the College Board's AP School Honor Roll for the 2023-2024 school year, meeting the criteria for Gold Status. The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools that have done outstanding work to welcome more students into AP courses and support them on the path to college success, with criteria including college culture, college credit, and college optimization. Monomoy achieved Gold Status for college culture and college credit and platinum status for college optimization.
“These accomplishments would not be possible without the support of administration and our highly dedicated and talented instructors.” said Jonathan Bennett, MRHS Counselor and AP Coordinator. “Special accolades go to our students, who challenged themselves with the most rigorous coursework available to them at MRHS.”
MRHS is also being recognized with the AP Access Award, which honors schools that encourage more low-income and underrepresented minority students to take AP courses. In the letter announcing this recognition, College Board Senior Vice President of AP and Instruction Trevor Packer wrote, “Research shows students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time. And even for those who don't earn college credit, advanced coursework provides early exposure to college-level work and contributes to a college-going school culture. We know it takes a considerable school wide effort — dedication from teachers, counselors, administrators, students, and parents — to make AP access a priority. I'm inspired by your commitment and grateful for the chance to honor your success.”
“It is quite impressive that 80 percent of our senior class has experienced at least one AP course during their high school journey,” said Monomoy High Principal Jennifer Police. “This honor from the College Board recognizes and celebrates that commitment.”

Chatham Elementary School Gets $15,000 Donation From Subaru

Thanks to a generous donation from Subaru of New England, every Chatham Elementary School student was given a math toolbox to take home, and the school also now has $15,000 to dedicate toward special projects to support students.
Each year, Subaru of New England schedules a community service project at their annual conference, which was held at Chatham Bars Inn this year. The team at CBI recommended Chatham Elementary School to Subaru as a worthy recipient.
“We began meeting over the summer to develop a community service project that would support our school,” said Chatham Elementary School Principal Jennifer Kelly. “In the past, Subaru of New England has held a backpack stuffing party and distributed the backpacks to a local school — we are blessed to have community partners already supporting us for this resource. We determined that having math toolboxes for every student to bring home would be an incredible support in their learning and the Subaru team was thrilled to supply and assemble these boxes.”
Each Chatham Elementary student has received a box filled with markers, whiteboard, clock, dominoes, playing cards, pencils, number chart, number line, protractor, ruler, math games, and more. This comprehensive set of materials will support and reinforce students in learning and practicing math.
“Each time we are hosted by any community, Subaru of New England shows our gratitude through supporting a local organization in need,” said Rebecca Carr, Subaru of New England Community Love Promise Manager. “In August and September, Subaru and its retailers participate nationally in our Subaru Loves Learning initiative, where each retailer is directly providing funds to a high-need school in its community. This aligned perfectly with our fall outing at the Chatham Bars Inn, and their recommendation of supporting Chatham Elementary School. We were thrilled to be able to work with Principal Jennifer Kelly and find a unique way to support math education by creating take-home math kits for every student at the school.
Kelly was invited to the conference's final dinner, where team members spoke about the company's commitment to giving back to the community. She was then surprised with a check from Subaru of New England for $15,000 for the school.
“I'm still pinching myself to make sure this is real,” she said. “Our next steps will be to think about ways to use this incredible gift to benefit the entire community. I am working with our educators to identify how this generous gift can have the greatest impact on our school community.”
